The First 100 Days of a Value Growth Plan | Value Velocity
Most owners know their business is worth something. Far fewer know what it is worth today, what is holding that number back, or what to do first. The first 100 days of a value growth plan are about answering those three questions and building momentum you can measure.
Days 1 to 30: Get a clear baseline
You can't grow what you haven't measured. Start by understanding where your business stands on two fronts:
Attractiveness: how valuable and transferable your business is to a buyer, successor or investor.
Readiness: how prepared you are, personally and financially, to make a move when the time is right.
A simple questionnaire is the fastest way to start. It gives you an honest snapshot and shows where the biggest gaps are.
Days 31 to 60: Find the hidden value
Most of a company's value isn't on the balance sheet. It lives in four kinds of intangible capital:
Human capital: your people, their skills, and whether the business can run without you.
Customer capital: loyalty, recurring revenue, and how concentrated your customer base is.
Structural capital: your systems, processes, documentation and technology.
Social capital: your culture, reputation and standing in the community.
Rate yourself honestly on each one. The weakest area is usually where your first big gains are.
Days 61 to 100: Pick two moves and start
Don't try to fix everything at once. Choose two high-impact moves, such as documenting a key process or reducing your dependence on one large customer, and break them into small weekly actions. Tie each action to the value it builds, so your team understands why it matters.
What 100 days gets you
At the end of 100 days, you won't have a different business. You'll have a clearer one: a known baseline, a short list of priorities, and real progress on the drivers that make a company worth more. That clarity gives you options. Keep growing, hand it to family, or sell on your terms and your timeline.
